Today is very exciting me matey’ s… its that time of year again to mark International Talk like a Pirate Day! I’ve blogged about this before in 2010 and even in 2009…
Earlier this summer a friend convinced me to join pinerest (and I did, but haven’t been back since the 3rd day…bc I was way overwhelmed of all the choices…), but that good friend DID find me THIS image…. and I must admit it struck something inside of me…(Warning: Scroll fast if you dont’ want to see an F-bomb!)
Some days… that just sums up life! Wouldn’t it be way cool to live on a boat, usually in a hot sunny climate and scrounge around for food and treasure…with an abundance of rum, sun and sandy beaches? Escaping all the crappy parts of life… Don’t forget you’d be hanging out with your pirate buddies like Johnny and Orlando?
Ok I know they are ONLY pirates in Hollywood..but still let me have my moment to dream! I will have to be able satisfied dressing up as a pirate, talking like a pirate once and awhile..and sometimes changing my FaceBook language to pirate once and awhile… this is something you SHOULD try today in honour of “Talk-Like-a Pirate-Day”!
So, Drink up, me hearties! Have some rum because I sure won’t be where I’m living!!! Arrrrrr… I’m off to swab me’ decks…and fill up on some grub and go in search of some buried treasure!
Hope you have a fantastically awesome Pirate Day!
Yup, I’m travelling… should be a quick trip in and out of Iqaluit… (but that all depends on weather!) I may or may not blog, depends if I get any inspiration…or what I’ll get up to! Hope everyone had a great weekend! Talk to you on the ‘flip-side’!
Saturday night I heard a knock on my door and was asked if I’d like to go out for a night shoot! So off I went in search of the Northern Lights… I didn’t find those (they seemed to disappear before we got out and set up!) But I did take the above three photos. With a little help and suggestions, I was able to get my camera set up to shoot at night! It’s great to shoot with a photographer that’s better than you–because I learn so much!
Thanks Mike for the help and suggestions… and for knocking in the first place, can’t wait for the next time… Mike is an incredibly photographer and artist! You can check out his blog, HERE.
I shared the first part of this adventure climbing the hill HERE. Coming down the hill behind town this past Saturday my friend and I stopped to pick some berries. Thankfully my friend brought an extra ziplock baggie, (I forgot one)…it was fun to just to chill and pick me some berries!
some people sit or squat to pick berries.. and I did do that..but sometimes, I just like to lay down on the hill and pick away! (probably not the most productive way to do it…but I’m ok with the amount of berries I got!) Set the timer up on my camera to take a few shots… (this is probably why I didn’t get as many berries as some ‘expert’ pickers out there!..)
(And my friend took the photo above of me…. once we were picking closer together…)
I am in love with the fall colours on the tundra–so pretty!!!
Mmmm mmmm Berries!!! 🙂
Ok.. so I did get MORE than this… but didn’t end up taking a photo… just took one after the first few berries!!
It was the perfect end to the day… I’ve been sick the last few days, so haven’t done anything with the berries yet..but have some plans, you’ll have to stay tuned for those!
It so hard to believe it’s been ten years since the Towers fell and the Pentagon was hit. It’s one of those moments in my life that I think everyone remembers where they were and what they were doing. In 2001, I was living in North Bay, Ontario finishing my last year of university. It was the first week of classes..it was the week of classes where you showed up to your lecture only to meet your prof, get your class outline, a brief lecture about course expectations, and then are sent home! I was pretty excited to have a FREE day and was going to be able to head home to watch some good old daytime tv… and then go back to my 7pm class. So that morning I got up and headed up to the University to go to my 8:30am class and arrived back at my apartment around 10am–unaware of what was happening in NYC.
I turned on my tv–wanting to watch something..and quickly flipped past all the ‘American’ news briefs–I think it was the time that President Bush was addressing the country. I was just standing in front of the tv a bit annoyed that the US was taking over OUR Canadian tv with some silly announcement–I didn’t realize what they were saying. I was still flipping through channels to try to find something other than the CNN news coverage. But I couldn’t find one… so I paused on a channel and I saw it then, the reply of a plane hitting the tower… and then seeing the 2nd tower being hit. I remember standing in shock in my living room… and watching eyes glued to the tv-trying to make sense of it….soon after watched the North Tower fall, horrified not sure what to think. I think I was in shock. I don’t remember much else, other than praying and hoping that there would be some survivors in the wreckage. I spent most of the day re-watching the coverage of the planes hitting, and the towers falling-it was a horrible cycle repeated over and over and over on the tv.
Like everyone else in the world, I will remember the people that died in the towers, the rescue workers that were the first on the scene, the people who died at the Pentagon…the people on the flights that were hijacked and the families that have gone on without their loved ones the past decade. May we never forget.
