Happy Halloween…

Trick-or-Treating brings back so many good memories from being a kid!  Even where I lived often you had to have a costume that you could put your winter jacket under it–because it was cold(maybe not Arctic cold–but cold all the same!) In the north things happen a bit differently…this year in Pang it happened from about 5-6pm… I had about 150 kids!  (I was prepared for more so that’s good.) This year I had kids come on foot, by car, quad and snowmobile!  A lot of the kids just had really good face paint/wigs/masks…or costumes that fit over their parkas and snow pants! I don’t blame them because it was around -8C or colder tonight!

After Trick-or-treating everyone gathers at the High School Gym… and there’s more fun and excitement!  There’s a costume contest where judges decide on the 1st, 2nd & 3rd in each of the following categories: Best Costume, Worst Costume, Man dressed as Woman, Woman dressed as Man, Funniest Act, Celebrity Impersonations and Best Face Paintings!  There were cash prizes given to the winners… It was a lot of fun to see everyone’s awesome costumes.  (Earlier in the afternoon I went to Costume Contest for the Preschoolers! So cute to see all those babies, toddlers and preschoolers!)

These two photos are from the “Worst Costume” Category… it was the funniest to see!

I dressed up to hand out candy and to go watch the others strut/dance their stuff before the judges… maybe next year I’ll join them?

Hope you all had a fun and safe Halloween!  Don’t forget to brush your teeth…

Day 30… October Photography Challenge

Day 30: Self-portrait…

Taken on a walk around town…winter has arrived, who am I kidding..it’s been here for awhile!

It’s been great fun participating in this photography challenge!  I’ve had a blast looking at other’s photos that were participating.  I have found a few new blogs to read which is always fun too!  Because October has 31 days… I’ll be back with one more tomorrow!

30 Day Challenge: Days 24, 25, 26, 27, 28 & 29

Day 24: Animal…

I took a shot of some of the dogs in my neighbourhood…as I was waiting to be picked up to go to the airport!  (I went to the airport 3 times that day–but didn’t end up flying out, because of weather!)

Day 25: Something pink…

I knit this baby kimono sweater this past summer..then popped it into the mail for my friend’s newborn! It does had a little ‘something pink’ for her little girl…I can’t wait to go meet her daughter in person when I’m south on holidays in December…

Day 26: Close-up…

While I was in Iqaluit, I had dinner with friends..and their daughter gave me a manicure and pedicure!  Its been awhile since I’ve had either… this was the ‘first’ coat on my toes…next came BLUE SPARKLES! I love a good make-over!

Day 27: From a distance…

I took this on Friday morning when I was flying back into Pangnirtung from Iqaluit…so decided to take my shot from a distance!  I’m amazed every time I fly up here in the Arctic how vast and amazing this land is… can you see the boat going out to hunt in this photo? (hint: in the bottom right of the photo..really hard to see just a speck!)

Day 28: Flowers…

Well, I went out into my back yard searching for flowers here in the Arctic… I found 3 that were still surviving in the -15C and snow!  Yup, here in the Arctic we make hearty flowers…

Day 29: Black and white…

I love taking B&W photos… I took some courses and learned how to develop and print film…all in B&W, such fun!  I took this photo while I was walking past the harbour to get groceries. The tide was going out, but with all the work that has been happening (dreading of the harbour) to create a deep sea port… but it also means that there is always some water left in the harbour when it’s low tide!  Pangnirtung is in the top 5 for biggest tidal change in the country!

I can’t believe it’s already the end of the month!!!! I’ll post my final photo tomorrow… plus a little wrap up that I’ve been working on!

Happy Birthday Dana!

Don’t look so shocked…it’s your BIRTHDAY!

Let someone else do the laundry, grab your party crown…

..and have yourself a PARTY!

(consider part of your birthday gift me not using the ‘dorky’ party hat from last year, in this post! LOL)

Hope you have a wonderful day…

If I could find out a way a little snow south

…so you can hit up the slopes faster in Haliburton I totally would!

Sending you lots of luv from the Arctic, Sarah

Home, Sweet, Home…

Well I’m finally unpacked… and my 2bedroom house has become my home!  I thought I’d share some photos..(family and friends have asked)! So sit back and enjoy a virtual tour of my house!

The photo on the upper left is my ‘boot’ room..or front door!  Usually I keep the door closed so that when it gets really cold, the coldness doesn’t come right into you house… and there’s lots of room for storage!  I have a bin for hats, mitts and scarves… plus the two jackets I’ve been wearing lately.  On the upper right the photo is right at the of the boot room looking into my living room and kitchen up the stairs!

The bottom left shows my living room… and how you can look up into the kitchen! And the photo in the bottom right is a similar photo to the one I posted for Day 5, looking down from the kitchen into the living room~ just for a note… my house came furnished, but I brought up the rug, IKEA tube light, and two white shelves when I came!

If you turned right when you come into my house you would walk into my spare bedroom!  My spare room has turned into an ‘exercise’ room…I’m loving my treadmill, and I can still watch TV while I’m working out!  I have to wait for bed rails for my bed before I can put the rug on the floor!  (and if you are wondering my bike is still in the box…I have to put it together, but with all the snow outside…it hasn’t been a priority!)

Here’s a shot of my kitchen… there always seems to be dishes around my sink… today they just happen to be CLEAN! hehehe

Looking down towards the living room…. that open door is my bathroom!

Across from the bathroom (before my bedroom room)… there’s a double door that has shelves for linens and storage on one side–(it was kind of messy so you don’t get to see that!) and on the other side laundry!  The top photo was taken with me standing in the bathroom door… the bottom photo is a shot of my bathroom… nothing really out of the ordinary with it–tub/shower, toilet, sink!

Here’s my bedroom… the only room that has carpeting! It’s in pretty rough shape..I’ve asked that housing take it out and put tiles in like the rest of the house..but that takes time! I’m pretty glad that my mum found those dark blue curtains–they will help with the 24hour sunlight next spring/summer.  When I lived here in 2009 I ended up just tin-foiling my window to keep the sunlight out, glad I don’t have to do that this time!   I have a closet space in the corner…I still have to hang my IKEA start lights…and maybe another photo or something!

So that’s my little house in the Arctic.  Hope you enjoyed the tour… I’m thankful I’m all settled, as with the weather we’ve been having (snow and wind) it’s nice to have a comfy-cozy place to call home!
