On Saturday, I met up with my friends Nathalie and Martin.  They invited me to join them for a BBQ and Bonfire at their friend’s cabin just outside of Iqaluit.  It was such a nice day, the sun was shining…and perfect weather for a BBQ!

The cabin was close enough to Iqaluit and there was a road that a car/truck could travel on…but we took out the family ATVs…because that’s a lot more fun!

Safety first… Nathalie has an awesome helmet/googles-custom painted and everything! I got to use the “visitor” helmet…which was a bit too small…but worked for our short trip!  (even though it kind of sat on top of my head, and my nose was on the edge of the visor if it was down!)

Boys and their toys!

Martin had to join in on the fun…

A view from the cabin…

A little ‘family’ BBQ action!!! Martin thanks for cooking… I didn’t get a shot of my awesome pork chop, and potatoes (in the tinfoil)…and salads… the whole meal was so good!  I think eating outside, in the fresh air, makes food taste 200% better!

There was some frisbee and baseball happening…

The bonfire was awesome!!!  The main wood was old pallets from the airport (because there are no trees in Nunavut)… but the original ‘stack’ of wood had pieces of a Christmas tree in it…so it smelt like trees!

Natalie and I snuck away on the ATVs to head to Sylvia Grinnell Park.  I hadn’t been there before…and I think this was the first time I ever drove an ATV!  It was a fun trip- even got to head through some puddles and ended up a wee bit muddy! P.S. these photos were taken about 9:30-10:30pm!!!

A view of the river…worth the drive!

We then headed back to the bonfire… where there were GIANT marshmallows.

And gorgeous sun-sets.  This time of the year the sun just hovers on the horizon, not fully leaving the sky–which means GORGEOUS skyline views.

A perfect night to have a warm fire!

As the sun lingered on the horizon, the fire burned down to embers…and around 11:30-midnight…it was time to head back home!

…it was a perfect night!  Thanks Nathalie for inviting me… it was better than a night of dancing!
