Last night I got a Facebook message from my friend Mike asking if I’d like to head out with him to see if the Northern Lights were out. It was around 8:45pm and was pretty cold, but got bundled up and headed out when Mike arrived 30mins later!
The lights did not disappoint!
We headed up just behind my house…up past the water reservoir and set up to take some shots.
Mike helped me figure out my focus…one thing I always have a hard time doing for night shots–so it was awesome that he helped me out!
There’s something so magical just standing on a frosty evening (it was around -33C with a windchill of -37C) all bundled up watching the lights dance over your heads. At one point just before we were going to jump on the skidoo to head to a new location I was like–OH WOW, Look at that! (the lights had just jumped up on the horizon behind a mountain.)
All in all it was a fantastic night.
Thanks Mike for going shooting with me, can’ wait until the next time!
Another fun week of taking photos!!! This past week my friend, Rachelle joined me in Pang–she’s staying with me for 6 weeks total. It’s fun to have a roomie again. It’s hard to believe that it’s the last week of Febraury…this week has a few special dates ahead for me. Here was last week’s list…
Day 16: from where I stood… inside looking out a dirty window at such a bright but frigid day here in Pangnirtung.
Day 17: routine…every day have my tea and porridge while checking emails at my desk!
Day 18: bedside…I have my friend staying with me for the next 6weeks so I’m in the spare room!
Day 19: fresh…and cold is what the air outside is! I do love my Nunavut home. (Even though this day it was -32C with windchill -34C!)
Day 20: this is so me!!! Just chillin’ in a hoodie my bestie Krista gave me when I visited her in Melbourne.
Day 21: matching…frosted locks! My friend Rachelle and I during our chilly walk around Pang!
Day 22: macro…can you tell what this is?
Well here’s the list for Week 9! Why don’t you play along? I’m heading to Iqaluit this week for work looking forward to what this week will bring!
Home Sweet Pang! Wow, it’s been full weeks since I’ve been back home. Time really does fly so quickly! I’ve been busy getting adjusted to working full time after my vacation–which takes time! I’ve also been trying to get to bed earlier, and walk on my treadmill either before work or immediately after! So far so good.
On Tuesday my friend Rachelle arrived in Pang!
It’s hard to believe that 3 1/2 weeks ago we were walking on a beach in the sun beside an ocean…well today we went for a walk on the snow beside a FROZEN ocean! Wow, times have sure changed…and today we wore a few more layers–like covered from head to toe!
Boracay, Philippines vs. Pangnirtung, Canada
Even though it was cold today. It was -29C with windchill it was -39C we decided to head out for a short walk…as my grandpa would say, “to blow the stink off of us!” The sun was just heading behind the mountains as we had our short 20min walk!
There is a visiting dog team in town…and we caught Sarah McNair-Landry and Erik Boomer coming back from feeding them. They arrived from Iqaluit and are on a quest to circumnavigate Baffin Island by dogsled. Finding True North caught up with Sarah and Erik before they left Iqaluit…and wrote an awesome piece about their adventure! If you want updates about their progress–check out their website Way of the North!
Can you see the dogs in the photo below? They look so small!
Ok, so near the end of our short walk we were getting a wee bit cold! Rachelle needs to get some fur for her coat…I love the blue fox fur (that’s been dyed black) on my parka–catches all the frost so it doesn’t build up on my face. So if you are reading this via a reader or an email…click over to Sarah on the Road… I’ve updated a few things on the site. I’ve added a tab “Indigo’s Ravens” it shares all the posts from my Yukon 2013 adventure with my blogging friends Kara, Tina, Kennie and Jen! (Previously these were hosted on another site, but decided to move them over to SarahontheRoad).
My first week back at home went so crazy fast! It was great to be back at work and at home again. Settling back into my house…and catching up with friends has been awesome!
So here was the list for last week’s photos:
Day 9: energy… I needed a turtle break to re-energize me mid-afternoon to get through my day at work!
Day 10: this inspires me…I’ve been trying to spend more time on my treadmill and so far since coming home I’ve kept up with 60mins a day Monday-Friday! This board is beside my treadmill filled with lots of fun quotes and inspiring messages…I like the lady who says, “get on with it!”
Day 11: on the wall… Everyone needs to have a spot to store their superhero suit! Mine is on my office wall.
Day 12: pointy… My Indigo’s Raven feather-a friend gave it to me on my 2013 trip to the Yukon!
Day 13: temptation… All my Christmas candy and chocolates!!! Need to stash them and pull them out for a rainy (or snowy cold) day!
Day 14: love… When I was living in Australia 11 years ago my mum sent this heart & globe to me in one of her many care packages…with a note explaining that she was sending her heart around the world to me…when I got back to Canada I was upset that I had lost the heart in Australia I complained about being broken hearted so much my mum went out & replaced my heart so I could be “whole” again… And since then I keep them close to me when I travel!
Day 15: spot… My favourite $2.99 bag I got in Kmart in Australia…it’s a wee but spotty!!!
Another week down…here’s the list for Week 8! Why don’t you join me in posting a photo a day this week?!
Another busy week of photo taking…here’s the list from week 6!
Day 2: mail… I took this photo on Thursday when I finally got home. This is what a stack of mail looks like after holidays!
Day 3: water… Everything was pretty frozen on Frobisher Bay when I flew into Iqaluit!
Day 4: reward… A chocolate helps after being stranded in Iqaluit for a few days because of weather.
Day 5: something blue… It’s finally cold enough to wear the mittens I made last spring!!!
Day 6: makes me smile… Able to start routines again and head home each day for lunch, back to work!
Day 7: stripes… On the side of a seacan (shipping container) made by the snow!
Day 8: in my bag… Need to clean up the exploded laundry powder from my trip home…sometimes there’s a crazy disaster in my luggage when travelling. Glad today because it’s powder fresh smelling!
Another week down…here’s Week 7’s list why not join me?
