Thankful Thoughts…

~ Birds Hill Park, Manitoba (September 2010) taken by: Ryan Bealer~
Today I walked to the Northern and Co-op to get some groceries with a friend. On my way there, I had to stop to take in my surroundings. My camera was already in my hand…so I stopped to take a few snaps. On Thursday, snow returned to Pang…and has stayed on the ground making everything white, and bright. Today was a gorgeous day…blue skies and crisp fresh air! I feel so lucky and blessed that this is my view outside my front door. I’m so thankful that I get to live here.

After I got home I remembered how I stumbled across some wild turkeys in Birds Hill Park outside of Winnipeg. The fall of 2010 I was out taking photos with my friend Ryan and we found some turkeys. They were just walking around… crossing the road. I posted a story and some of these photos HERE. But I decided to re-share a few with you.

I have so much to be thankful for it’s hard to sum it all up with a few words. I remember as a kid you had to colour some leaves and then complete the phrase “I’m thankful for…” on the remaining blanks. So if I had to fill in those blanks for 2012…here are my answers in no particular order.

I’m thankful for…
- my amazing family & friends.
- for my health.
- the fun adventures I have in every day life.
- for my job, house and ability to pay the bills.
- technology…to stay connected with family and friends. (Skype, FB chat, email…)
- random surprise packages / letters that come in the mail that you don’t expect.
- to be able to see the Pang Pass every day as I walk to work.
- conversations with friends that break out in laughter…to the point where both of us are laughing and we don’t remember what started it!
- phone conversations with my mum.
- random phone conversations with family when they gathered and they put me on speaker phone. It’s like I’m in the room with them…not so far away.

Canada Day Celebrations in Pangnirtung!
1Yesterday was a super fun day… there is something so awesome about Canada Day Celebrations in the north. Celebrating with everyone in Pangnirtung made me so proud to be in the north, and Canadian!
It all started around 1pm with the flag raising, and singing our National Anthem in Inuktitut!
It was so awesome to see so much RED & WHITE…the whole community came out to celebrate Canada’s Birthday!
After the raising of the flag… there was a Pang Canada Day Parade! Lots of people decorated their trucks, SUVs, Cars and ATVs… and joined the fun! (the most fun is to BE in the parade…the cars follow the firetruck…and drive through town, over the bridge and back downtown…honking their horns!)
In 2009, I jumped in the back of a truck to join the parade..(click HERE, HERE and HERE for posts about Canada Day in 2009). But, this year I didn’t jump in the back of a truck…but stayed downtown to take photos, and wave as the cars drove by!
After the parade, everyone gathered beside the church for a Candy Toss!
Then the games started… first a dice game! If you rolled a 6 you were out… I was out fairly quickly!
Then there was a balloon toss.. I had Markus for a partner again–tried to relieve our 2nd place finish from Nunavut Day in 2009. that wasn’t in the cards this year–we didn’t last past 3 or 4 tosses! (I have bad aim… lol)
There were contests for the person with the Best Decorated Vehicle, ATV and Bike… as well as best Red & White Costume!
It was a fantastic afternoon, we couldn’t have asked for better weather…so sunny and warm, with a light breeze to keep the mosquitoes away!
At 8pm there was a community feast at the Canon Rock…but I didn’t end up heading to that. I missed out on good food, visit with friends and the bowhead whale that was calving in the fjord! You win some-loose some I guess. Hope everyone else had a fantastic day!
Happy Canada Day
0Representing my country with pride wherever I may be…
(Dancing in the Rain, Summer 2010 ~Arjona, Colombia)
In honour of Canada this year… I thought I’d share this Youtube Video… I found this gem this year!
Hope everyone has a HAPPY and SAFE Canada Day! Get out there and celebrate our great country… I’ll be heading to some celebrations here in Pang later on this afternoon…
And make sure to enter my TGCBB contest... and my friend Lisa’s (where you can win one a print of mine!) these draws close at the end of today!
Happy Mother’s Day…
1- ~May 22, 2011~
Mother’s Day…
a time for warm thoughts
and fond memories,
for expressing
the feelings and words
that often go unspoken,
for letting
those special people
in our lives know
that they are loved
and appreciated
-always.
Dear Mum,
I hope you have a fantastic day… hope it is filled with peace, rest, laughter and joy! I wish I was in Haliburton celebrating with you today… Today is one of those days I wished I didn’t live so far away. When I started living so far away… I decided to do a special post for you each Mother’s Day. (2009, 2010 and 2011) It’s hard for me to believe this is the 4th Mother’s Day I’ve lived so far away on this day…
Here’s two of my photos from Winnipeg taken in 2010!
When I headed out to take photos today… it was really, windy… (it really wasn’t that dark, but because of my flash…it just looks that dark!)
I am looking forward to seeing you this summer and heading to some of the plays at the Highlands Summer Theatre with you!!!

You are the best Mum a gal could ever ask for. You are always seem to be there with the right words of support and encouragement me when I need it! Thanks for being you…the best MUM ever… and also for being my friend.
