#FMSPhotoaDay- Week 4

Wow, a week of fun has flown by so fast having fun exploring here in Manila and Boracay. Even with all my travelling I was still able to share some snaps of my travels. I can’t wait to get home and process all my Canon 6D shots! But let’s not get ahead of myself– I still have 5 more days in the Philippines and travelling again this week to see another region!

Here was the list of prompts for week 4.

NYE Thoughts…

Some random thoughts on New Year’s Eve…as 2014 ends and 2015 begins.

Happy New Year

{Source}

2014 was a great year…for the first time I choose a word to think about for the year.  I chose “create” or “creativity”.  During 2014 I worked to embrace my creative side again, learned how to quilt (still need to finish said quilt but it’s coming along quite nicely).  I also learned how to make seal skin and leather mittens. I sewed a few children’s capes and knitted a few baby sweaters for friend’s new babies and older siblings to enjoy.  What prompted me to pick a word for 2014 was my involvement in ‘A Bright Project’. Each month I was paired up with a different woman to exchange a snail mail letter or package…also interacting with each other via Instagram!  It was quite a fun way to branch out and be social and meet some wonderful woman from around the world!

2014 brought a change in my work in May…to a new position, still based in Pangnirtung…but allowed me to travel and renew my love of Nunavut.  It was great to visit so many different communities over the 2nd half of the year.  (Yes, sometimes I got stuck…and didn’t spend much time at home….but honestly, I loved every second of it…except the paperwork aspect! But if you know me papers have never been my strong suit!)

I arrived this morning in Melbourne, Australia and am I’m travelling overseas for the month of January also visiting the Philippines before coming home to Canada. I’m so uber excited about this trip…the tickets have been booked for 6 months and it’s FINALLY here!

I wrote this post on December 28th before I started my trek to Melbourne. I know my blog has been a bit silent in the last 8 weeks or so. It’s hard to believe that it is almost my 6th year anniversary of starting to blog. I never thought when I started in 2009 that this would be something I would be still doing so many years later. I blog because it is a creative outlet, I like sharing photos and stories and snippets of my life. It’s become a happy place..and I enjoy the process and the people I’ve met through my blog. But when life gets crazy, blogging is the first ball that is dropped. To be honest the past 8 weeks or so, I just needed a break…life and work has been so crazy hectic…blogging became another thing that was on the MUST do list, rather than the ‘oh this is fun let’s just share’ list. But don’t you worry, I’m not giving up blogging. I look at it as just unplugging for a bit…and taking a bit time for me to recharge and refill my batteries.

Don’t worry, 2015 is going to be a steller year I can feel it already and  I can’t wait to share with you some of the adventures I’m going to have. But you might have to be a wee bit patient with me, as I’m not going to be blogging from the road. But can’t wait to share with your my adventures when I’m back home in February!

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” ― H. Jackson Brown Jr., P.S. I Love You

I’m looking forward to 2015…are you?

Random Ramblings…

Being sick is never fun.  Traveling and working while you are sick is definitely not fun. I got home on last Friday morning from my trip to Cape Dorset.  I went into the office finished up some work that had a deadline but by 3:30pm I was camped out in the Health Centre…waiting to see a nurse.  Yahoo for good nurses…that’s all I can say! After getting some meds. via a mask…to help my breathing…then some puffers and pills.  If you follow me on Instagram you’ll see the fun selfie I posted over there from that experience.  I was home and on my couch by 8:00pm…excited for a long weekend to just sleep and rest.  (…not my original plan, but glad that I had the next 3 days to do nothing at all.) That’s exactly what my body needed and what I did.  I’m glad to be on the rebound, and feeling a lot better!  I’m so thankful for awesome neighbours that called to check in and took me down to the Northern so I could get some fresh food…and supplies to make some soup. By Monday I was ready to do something other than sleep…so ended up making a comfy spot on the couch and decided to start to binge watch a TV show that’s new to me.

six20feet20under

Almost 2 years ago a friend of mine left Pangnirtung and left me with DVDs of Season 2-5 of 6 feet Under.  Earlier this spring I got the first season from a friend in town.  So it was time to start to watch it. Six Feet Under was a HBO series that ran from 2001-2005.  Not sure why I didn’t watch it then…but I must admit, I’m kind of hooked about where this series is heading. It’s a bit darker of a TV show than I usually like…but there’s something about the characters and their stories that keep drawing me in. Looking forward to seeing what exactly is going to happen to the Fisher Family! (no spoilers if you have seen the series…)

Fall has definitely hit the air…today was nippy.  Almost time to dig out the mittens and hats again…walking home from work tonight I was talking with my neighbours outside…we stood around for a bit, until we all admitted we were a bit cold and hungry so went inside our warm homes!  This fall is going to be a crazy busy one for me…I will be travelling a lot for work.  It’s a good thing I like to travel.
