A ‘New’ home…

This is something I’ve been working on for a bit… a ‘new-home’ for Sarah on the Road…

I just wanted to say a quick thank you for the help and encouragement in creating this new ‘blog’ (I was like a fish out of water, still am but at least I’ve made it back to the water!)  Two people I’d like to specifically mention are Jen and Lisa!  It was Jen that helped me get off my butt and actually get a domain. (I had been wanting to do this for awhile…like probably over a year)… It came up one day when we were talking  on Facebook and it came up and then she helped ‘walk’ me through the process of getting a domain and hosting….  Lisa has always been my ‘go-to’ person for blog help!  In the past 2 years she’s been the one that has helped me create headers, set up my blogspot layout for me… and always around for me to bounce ideas off of… She listened to what I wanted.. and then went searching for a layout that would work.. and then set up the formatting of that layout for me… (wordpress is still kind of a foreign language to me!) lol   Without these gals… this would have NEVER been might never have happened so quickly! 🙂 thanks again!

I’m not saying it’s perfect… I’ve done a bunch of ‘tweaking’ but am happy with the result!  Not to say that there might be other changes in the future when I have internet again at home! But for now… I’m happy with it!

Sorry for making everyone ‘update’ their feeds on their blogs.. (it’s a pain I know!)

Thanks again!

Sarah 🙂

announces she never did care for pie.” – Tenneva Jordan

Glad you could come out to Winter-peg and visit me this past February!
I LOVE YOU!

Hope you have a fantastic day… sending you heaps of luv… and like my card said… I really wish that there was a Mum’s Hug App… so then I could get one really easily!

Luv you..

Surprises! Oh My…

>

About a month ago, I received an email from a co-worker…telling me about the Red River Deep Freeze (Roller Derby Event!).  She was wondering who else wanted to come out.. I was totally in for going to a new event.  I looked at the date of the event, and realized my mum would be out… so I booked 2 tickets… and then had to tell my mum that she would only be able to go to 5 of the 6 Moose games that were scheduled.  (She of course asked why… and I kept it a secret…) until just before we left for dinner!

We met up with 2 of my coworkers for crepes.. at this amazing crepe place that is like a 10ish min walk away from my apartment! (I so love that my place is a walk away from so many good places to eat, and have coffee!).

We drove to the Winnipeg Convention Centre…met up with another co-worker, and her two kids… we were all pumped to see what the night would bring…. I must admit I was pretty amazed at what a big crowd was there! And was thankful for my co-worker that was able to get us seats–that had a good view!

I took the following photos from the program… to show you the ‘team rosters’….
Here’s Winnipeg’s Murder City Maidens….

Who took on Red Deer’s Nighshades!

As we watched the players warm up…. we looked at the “Quick Derby Primer’ in the program… which is below…it’s a good thing that was there… but even reading.. I wasn’t 100% sure what was about to happen during the ‘derby’…..

Here’s the “zebra crew” also known as Referees…
A quick shot of the warm-up/introductions…

The acoustics were pretty bad–It was way loud..but you still couldn’t understand what the announcers were telling you!

Here you can see the “Jammer” (with the star on her helmet)..moving through the “pack” to score points–they get one point for every opponent they pass legally–but they have to make it through the pack once before they start to score…. the first jammer (there are 2 one from each team)… through becomes the ‘lead jammer’ they have the ability to call of the Jam at any time… (usually if their team isn’t in a scoring position but the other team is!)…

I think the funniest part of the night was when mum turned to me and told me that my dad was a big fan of roller derbies back in the 70s/80s….another random fact that I know about my dad I suppose!?

There were some falls, a roller skate fell off at one point… and lots of yelling…. (Once I figured out how the derby worked… there also was some cheering!!)

 In the end… the Red Deer Nightshades… won…. 🙂 it was a fun night…

I think my mum really enjoyed her surprise as much as I did!  Unfortunately, we don’t have any photos of us at the derby… but that doesn’t mean we didnt’ like it… even though the popcorn was a bit too salty!

Happy Valentine’s Day…

>

my heart and the globe… a gift from my mum that she sent to me in Australia…
and I’ve carried them around to other places all over the globe!
I received the best gift this year.. and that was having my mum come and visit me for 12 days!! It’s been almost 2 years since I’ve lived in the same province as my family… and I have come to realize that time with loved ones is precious.
Today is a day that has become a bit commericalized… but let’s bring it back to the heart of love… spending quality time with loved ones… that’s what this day should be about! I hope everyone out there can surround themselves with the people they love today! (Whether via Skype, in the living room, or by picking up the phone… it’s all about reaching out.. and bringing those people close to you… even if you live a million miles away!)
We did exchange cards, and some chocolates… because it’s always a good day when chocolate is involved!

Happy Valentines to all my family and friends… may you have an awesome day.. and know you are loved, today.. and more importantly all the other 364 days of the year!

Luv, Sarah

Mum’s HERE!!

On Thursday morning.. my mum arrived from Ontario…
taken today at the Forks during our Ride!
I had a crazy day at work..so wasn’t able to pick her up at the airport. So organized her with a list of instructions/address to my apartment, arranged with the super in my building to let her in… and then I had to wait for the super to call to say she arrived! Her plane landed at 9:37am.. and by 10:35am I had a call–mum was at my apartment.  Let’s just say the rest of the day was good, but I kept thinking I can’t wait to get home!!!
Sunday at the Forks… self portrait…
We headed out for Thai…where I had my B-day dinner… and had a ‘FEAST’ of food!  Friday, I got up and headed to work… and then we headed to the Moose Games on Friday and then Saturday night!
These shots were taken with my iPhone… a quick shot of the warm-up!
Saturday night the Moose retired Mike Keane’s #12 Jersery, and raised it to the roof.

Mum and I were there… had tickets in the ‘upper’ bowl.. it was sold out house!

My cousin got a goal in that game.. and then we all went out to dinner after! We didn’t get home until 1:30am…(apparently my ‘late’ nights are rubbing off on my mum!)

Sunday morning, after a lazy start we headed down to the Forks!  I had what has become my FAVOURITE thing… from the Pancake House!  Banana Choc. Chip Pancakes—have you had them? If not.. you NEED to try them!  which always remind me of Jack Johnson’s “Banana Pancake” song…

We wandered around.. up to the look out… and then sat on a bench where we sat at Easter last year when Mum came out to visit.. You can look at those photos HERE (I had a bit redder hair!) it was a gorgeous way to spend the afternoon…it was about +5C!

There were TONS of people out on the River Trail…

..a shot of the look out tower, at the Forks…

We decided to go on the ‘free’ wagon ride… pulled by two horses!  It was great fun… during our short ride.. it started to snow, the temps had dropped as well!  After some hot chocolate and a look at the fantastic toy shop… we headed home!

All in all it’s been a busy but FUN few days!! 🙂 I’m sure there will be much more fun happening over the remaining days she is out visiting!!
