Visitors in the ‘peg!

This past Saturday… I went to the airport to pick up my Big-bro and sister-in-law at the airport! ย They were in town for the past 5 days at a conference.. They flew in early so that we could visit… We went to one of my favourite crepes places in the village.. and then drove over to Assiniboine Park to walk around for a bit! ย It was great to catch up… and visit… although next time I think they should bring my gorgeous nephews too!! ๐Ÿ™‚ Here are some photos from our time at Assiniboine Park!

We walked through the new-nature-adventure playground….

This place has ‘shrubbery’ that is FROGS that have DRESS-UP CLOTHES and PLAY musical instruments!!!ย

Have to take a photo by the ‘banjo-playing-FROG’!another photo-op by the giant ‘yak’ on the hill? Yes, I do believe that’s what one should DO!
a quick snap of the park…. with the water-feature that pours into the sand box… so much fun!ย

Jamie and Dana really wanted to take these out for a ‘tour’….and both agreed that Samuel and Benjamin would have LOVED them… so they posed for a photo to show the boys when they got home!ย

Onto the English Garden… where we asked someone to take a photo of all THREE of US!!

Followed by some other ‘funny’ portraits… of Jamie and Dana…. (I made them play ‘model’ and I wanted to try out some stuff…and they did happily play along!)ย Dana…. ๐Ÿ™‚ She’s the first gal that I could call Sister!… it’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years since that day…ย ..Jamie… ๐Ÿ™‚ the best big bro a gal could have!!! ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for putting up with my many ‘moods’… I’m thankful to have you in my life!ย Iย think that they were trying to ‘escape’ my camera… but there’s little chance of that!!! (unless i’m out of batteries—side note: I still need to find my battery charger, still don’t know where I put it!)ย

Ten Years Married…and STILL holding hands!!

Thanks for modelling for me what a great marriage looks like…. ๐Ÿ™‚ย

Thanks for the short..but fun visit!!!ย …by the time this is posted… you will be well on your way back to Ontario..thanks for the visit! ๐Ÿ™‚

>Wandering around the the ‘hood…

It was another ‘hot’ day… we had a bit of a lazy sleep in.. and after a quick bite of lunch.. we headed out to take a walk around the ‘legislative building’…
Our first stop was to see the Polar Bears!!
They looked harmless enough.. so Meg went in for a hug!
I also decided it was ‘safe’ enough for a hug!
…Meg decided to help hold up the Inuksuk!
But she looked VERY cool doing it!
Good old Louis….
A view from the south side of the building.. (or as I like to say.. the BACK!)
A view from the ‘side’…
Meg took this one!
..at the ‘front’ or the North Side of the building… Meg is striking a pose on the steps… can you see her?
..tryin to stay cool in the heat!
Another shot of Meg at the front of the buildings…. (can you see her?)
We decided to see if we could ‘enter’ the buildings.. and we could! There was no cost… and we were able to ‘wander’ as we pleased…(I like Manitoba because I think the rules at ‘Queens Park’ are slightly different!) We were told that there was a tour that was going on.. which if we ‘bump’ into.. we were welcome to join…(which we did.. and ended up getting to see INSIDE the chamber–where the members sit and all the ‘magic’ happens!)…but I’m getting ahead of myself…
Here’s Meg, she’s sportin’ our ‘visitor’ badge.. there’s one per group!
This is the dome that is below the tower..
(above the tower is a second dome..and above that is where the “Golden Boy” sits!)
This is also below that dome.. looking down.. this star is freaky.. it follows you around  (no matter what side of the circle you are on!) AND if you stand in the basement.. and start to talk… it’s like you are using a microphone… (I tried… Meg did too.. but it didn’t work the same for her as it did for me…)
Just looking at the cool architecture..
Meg in the Chamber…

Me in the Chamber…
The Mace… on display for the summer in the chamber.. usually it’s kept in the Speaker’s office when the house isn’t sitting!
The other really cool thing we got to see was the Magna Carta…
On a rare trip from England, where it is kept!!
…this old, old document…
Meg was pretty excited to see it in person…. ๐Ÿ™‚
Also on display was the ‘corner’stone that the Queen unveiled in her visit on July 3rd to Winnipeg… it is going to reside at the Museum of Human Rights when it opens in 2012! But for now it’s on display here…
Just chill’n… (we enjoyed the air conditioning of the building!)

..a quick self-portrait…(excuse the ‘wide’ angle look of the shot)

I couldn’t take enough photos of the inside of this building.. it’s really really really pretty, and also was pretty empty and quiet!
…Me striking a pose..
Outside Meg, met the 5 women responsible for getting the vote in Canada.. but they were pretty busy signing paperwork.. so there wasn’t much conversation that happened!
One last shot of the two of us outside on the lawn… (we almost got blown away!)
After doing some running around… we came home and I cooked dinner (yes, I do cook at times…) and then Meg really wanted to head back over to Baked Expectations for dessert.. and well I wasn’t one to say NO! ๐Ÿ™‚ We decided to eat there…
Meg ordered the ‘Apple Raisin Pie’ with EXTRA whipped cream!!!

..that thing was GINORMOUS!!!

I ordered… the “crazy chocolate cake”
(which had chocolate cheese cake, chocolate cake and chocolate mousse in it.. as well as being ‘covered’ in choc. icing…)
can we say CHOCOLATE over kill… but it didn’t kill ME, I killed IT!!!!
mmmm root bear float… (one of the first times I have remembered having one!!)
That was the perfect way to end an amazing day! Thanks so much for suggesting it Meg!!  I have so enjoyed spending time with you this past week… it was fun to have someone along for the ride back to Manitoba!  It was also awesome to be able to show you my house.. and where I live!!  Thanks for an awesome road trip/vacation… I’m going to miss you!!! (can’t wait til you come back again!!)
Safe travels home to Ontario tomorrow!!
luv ya, Sar

>Sushi and Cheese Cake….

Meg and I both LOVE Sushi… so we went to Meiji Sushi it was soooo darn good!! After filling our bellies full of sushi.. we took a walk down Osbourne…popping into shops..(partly due to the RAIN that was pouring down…) but also because we wanted to head to Baked Expectations…  I seriously love this place… and well a good friend Ryan introduced me to it… and it’s darn good… too good in fact!
Since there was a ‘clearing’ in the rain.. we took ours to GO.. and headed home for a movie, (Australia) and well cheese cake!
Me and my Carmel Pecan Cheesecake!
Meg and her Dark Chocolate Cheesecake!

Mmmmmmm so good… and it tastes even better in front of the TV in our PJs!!

>The Forks!!

We ended up at the Forks this afternoon… we met up with my friend Ryan.. for a late lunch/early dinner! Sat on a patio and caught up… then we walked around a bit… and I had Ryan take a photo of Meg and I skipping across the bridge… It was fun times.. just ask Meg!!
At the river, I wanted to get another photo of Meg and I… but apparently she was all ‘serious’ and wouldn’t smile…. So well that meant I needed to ‘help’ her smile…. and the following photos were taken!! (thanks Ryan for capturing the moment!)
..I was saying something like “c’mon Meg.. you need to smile..” and then I tickled her… as she attempted to tickle me!
“are you smiling yet?!”
..by the time we moved RIGHT next to the river… Meg wasn’t so serious… and I didn’t even have to ‘tickle’ her to smile! ๐Ÿ˜‰
After exploring the BEST toy store ever… I decided we needed ice cream.. so that’s what we had for dinner!!!  It was soooo yummy!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Exploring the ‘peg…

Our first stop today was the English Gardens at Assinaboine Park…I was excited.. as the last time I was here.. there were few flowers… seems like summer brought more flowers!! ๐Ÿ™‚
…the pond where there were no flowers, well now a lockness monster resides!
..mum’s house.. is looking pretty spiffy with some flowers outside!! (click HERE for that story!)
…there were BUTTERFLIES!!! (and I happened to get a shot of one!!)
Flowers…so many pretty ones to take photos of!!
I really liked these ones…
Meg really liked this one!!
We chill’d beside this pond for a bit.. and I struck up some random converstation with a cool woman and her 6month old baby!!

I love this park!
..it is a really beautiful place to be!
It’s always a gamble IF you will get a decent photo when you hand your camera off to a stranger…(even if you do a ‘brief’ lesson ie) put it on automatic and say “all you have to do is push the ROUND button”)…this woman was extremely anxious about it.. but agreed.. and I think she did a fantastic job!!
“reflections… on the pond”
And then we went to the ZOO!! ๐Ÿ™‚ Meg decided to press a penny… (and apparently it didn’t work) so we went to the gift shop.. and they were able to give us one in the end… so it wasn’t a waste of our money!
There is a statue of “Winnie” the bear.. and the army guy that was from Winnipeg.. (seems like I can’t get away from that bear!)
There were lots of animals… I took a few photos… and worked at ‘focusing’ through the fences, sometimes with great success sometimes not!
We sat and watched the monkeys for awhile… they were having a blast swinging and playing in their cage…
We also saw these ‘prairie dogs’ but they were “WILD” not part of an exhibit.. and well they were pretty darn CUTE.. to see all the holes on the hill.. and they were cheeky little guys… some kids came and started to feed them bread… they liked that a lot! One came right up to Meg’s shoe….
It isn’t a zoo without peacocks running around randomly!!
Tiger 1 was talking to Tiger 2… they were in separate cages… I don’t think that they were friends!!
Tiger 2…
Tiger 1…

But Tiger 1 looks pretty happy!!!
At lunch we found the ‘worlds’ largets ketchup packets… they were simply wonderful!!! and I only used ONE!
We had an excellent day… and then headed home for some dinner…and to get ready for drinks!!
(more about that to come in the next post!!!)
